Visit Amazing Chattanooga, TN!!

How about a step back in time? We began our visit at none other than the Chattanooga Choo-Choo, where we stayed in a Victorian rail car. We were there the week or so before their official season started and it was a little quiet. But I was assured that things came a live when tourist season started. However the slow pace was a really nice for us. We had dinner at the Station House where they had singing servers. We also took a carriage ride where all the carriages are assigned a dalmation to ride.

We visited all the regular tourist places that people see when they come to Chattanooga. Rock City…a MUST see! This place is a great thing of beauty. At the top you can see 7 states! This is a self-guided tour. Special thanks to the Carters who started Rock City on private property back in the 30’s.

Then on to Ruby Falls…WOW! This was quite a hike and I think the only thing we didn’t like about Ruby Falls was that it was a group tour. Other than that…WOW! 145-foot underground waterfall that they have never found the source to.

Of course we had to catch the famous Tennessee Aquarium. Those sea horses are a thing of wonder! It is a great aquarium and takes several hours to go through…so leave your self plenty of time to take in this adventure. And who would want to miss the IMAX Theater…A Rainforest Adventure…GREAT PRODUCTION!

We don’t want to leave out the incline-railway. At the top you have a view of the entire downtown Chattanooga.

There is one other stop that I just loved! It was one of those accidental things that make trips worthwhile! 2601 Broad Street! I noticed this beautiful mosaic on the building. So I just had to stop and find out about it! We ended up going into several great shops! One was a little shop called the GRAPEVINE of Chattanooga that had clothing, and outdoor equipment; another was an art studio that had unique art! And of course we met the artist Steve Terlizzese of Collage Mosaics that did the mosaic on the building. He does Grandfather Clocks, Wall Mirrors and lots of other things. He also does custom work. Check him out at www.E-creativeunion.com

Chattanooga is great for the whole family or a romantic weekend of two. My best advise when visiting Chattanooga is to look for package deals, you will save quite a bit of money.

Michigan State Fair is Fun For All

You can find the Michigan State Fair nestled on the fairgrounds of Detroit, not far from the Detroit River. From late August to early September the fair provides entertainment and education to visitors, many of whom visit during the Labor Day weekend. The more popular attractions and events include the free evening concerts, the Miracle of Life Exhibit, DNR/HCMA Outdoor Zone for kids, and Racing Pigs.

Souvenirs can be found at the fair’s Michigan Mart which is filled with small shops looking to provide a little something to visitors to take home. There are tee shirts, sweat shirts, hats, postcards, cookbooks, and lots of other items.

One of the newest annual events to take up residence at the Michigan Fair is the Dog Agility Competition. Come watch dogs of all sizes and shapes compete with each other in agility races and obstacle courses in over fifty classes. Every dog can enter from the new amateur to the seasoned mutt for lots of ribbons, cash and funny moments. Remember every dog has a mind of its own and there are certainly some each year who decide not to run the courses, or even to run them backwards.

The fair is also host to Dance, Cheerleading and Baton Competitions galore. You can cheer on kids of all ages as they show off their skills and athletic abilities for the crowds and hopefully first place!

Parades occur daily at the fair. They are filled with local high school marching bands, classic cars, clowns, boy and girl scouts and a number of individuals and groups who join in for the fun. You’ll know the parade is on when you hear the distinctive beat of the marching band drums.

The magic midway will provide the necessary thrills and chills that visitors so desire. Let yourself ride high in the sky, roll up and down on roller coasters, or spin around till your head spins.
